We consider a "small boat" a trailerable that can be built by an amateur boat builder. Tom Lathrop's Bluejacket 24 is a large boat inside, but his design is trailerable, and
certainly within the capabilities of our readers.

Plan Review: Bluejacket 24
In 1999, an article in Boat Builder Magazine caught my eye. A trailerable cruiser, light weight, with spacious accommodations (for a small boat!) and low power requirements. And it
got up on a plane with relatively low horsepower.
Previously, all I had seen in this class of boat were heavy displacement style boats ... wonderful in their own right ... like Sam Devlin's Surf Scoter and Ken Hankinson's
Coastal Cruiser. This was a perfect cruising boat to put on my "gotta' build" list. But alas, this article was by Tom Lathrop, an individual who designed the boat solely for
himself, and no plans were available.
A query on the Wooden Boat Forum brought Tom out, and several of us pressed him for "lines" of his beloved Liz.
With the epoxy barely cured, Tom set out to bring the world plans of his Liz, but like designing the boat, this was new territory for Tom.
Small Boats can be used in conjunction with the MSN Small Boats site, where members can post their pics (3mb limit). Due to the
generosity of our members, we also have picture posting in our My Gallery section here on messing-about.com. You are free
to use either one, or both, for your small boat project.
Small Boats features reviews of small boat plans with an eye toward helping the people who matter the most: the amateur boat builder trying to read them. We are eager
to get your reports on the plans you have bought; especially if we can include your comments to help other builders thinking about buying those plans. Please Click Here! to email me your review.
