B&B Yacht Designs builders have asked that messing-about.com post the following message about establishing a support team to help Graham Byrnes with the expenses associated with registering and entering the upcoming Everglades Challenge race:

Now is the time to become a part of the winning team by lending support  to one of the most accomplished world class yacht designers.

Graham  Byrnes will attempt  to do the impossible, by repeating his winning victory in one of the most demanding  small craft  races in America. The Everglades Challenge is a 300 mile race, which is without a doubt  one of the most difficult small craft open water races.  (For more details of last  years race, see the attached PDF).

This year  Graham has designed and is building a new boat  to compete against the very best.  Time and precious  resources are in short supply, so in response we are establishing the E. C. S. T.   This is a loose association of builders and admirers of B & B Yacht Designs and Graham and Carla Byrnes.  Here is an opportunity to help Graham in his attempt to repeat his record setting victory, an opportunity to be part of the Everglades Challenge Support Team.

Each week until the start of the race Graham will post  photos of his progress in building his  EC22, Southern Skimmer.  Consider  how Graham will have to design, build, and test a new design with just  5 weeks remaining and then compete in this years toughest challenge.  Let’s lend a hand!

Become part of the winning support  team. All checks should be marked "gift" in the memo portion, and made out to B & B Yacht Designs.  All contributing "Team Members" will be sent a signed photo of the designer and his new racing craft.

Send your check to:
B&B Yacht Designs
196 Elm St., P.O. Box 206
Vandemere, N.C. 28587-0206

Hey, I think its a good thing when customers want to support the company they buy from ... that kind of brand loyalty is rarely seen anymore.  And its a testament to Graham and Carla, of course, because they usually count their customers as their friends as well.

Sponsorship in a race isn't unheard of; in this case, its just a loose group of people who want to help out by sending $10 or $25 to help with the expenses.  The fact that they are the same people who have done business with them shows that the business B&B does is on the up-and-up.

Everyone should note that this fund was not solicited by Graham or Carla.  It was started spontaneously by forum members to support the B&B EC effort.

Good point ... I should have made that clearer in the first post in the "preamble".  I did make them ask Graham and Carla if it was OK that we did it, and they agreed, but it certainly wasn't initiated by Graham and Carla.
