A couple of B&B  boats got together at the border of Texas and Oklahoma this past weekend with many others from the Trailer Sailers group.  I thought you might want to see a photo or two.

It was my first real chance to sail with some bigger production boats.  I followed behind not knowing it was racing until one of them jokingly told me.   Of course I had to see if I could keep up and I was pleasantly surprised by the result.  Probably they would do better with more wind.

One time the wind died on us when we got to the middle of the lake.  Several crews especially on the smaller boats got out oars.  They used one oar on one side at a time.  This is one area I was set-up by Graham for success.  Using the standard oar set-up you can really make some progress.  But when its close to 100 deg out, anymore than 15 minutes of this and your ready to die.  Good thing I had my electric trolling motor too.

I saw the power of a staysail on Travis's Pilgrim.  When it went up Travis took off like we were standing still.  Some believe this sail has the power to take all the wind off the lake because the wind died not long after it came out.   For now I think I like the simplicity of just 2 sails on the CS17  I'm still humbled that I actually built something that is as good as (to me better than) store bought.

Nice report Tim!
Glad to hear you had a nice sail. More pictures would be ok.
You didn't say how you did after you found you were racing.

Thanks for the report and pics, Tim.  For the rest of you, you would be proud of Tim's work on his CS17.  It really looks sharp and sails well.  Too bad we didn't have a little more wind so we could have given both the B&B boats a good test.

Travis,

Have you had the Princess out in a blow yet?  I would love to see how she looks screamin and heeled over a bit.

Joe,  I've been out one time where I had to reef down to single reefs.  She handled very well and balanced out perfectly.  I only came close to getting the rail down a couple of times (she's very stiff).  Unfortunately, there was no one else around to take a pic of her.

This was the first time I ever shipped any water over the bows that got as far as the cockpit.  Normally, she sails pretty dry on a beat, even in a good breeze; somewhat different from the other sailboats I've owned.

Strange how seldom anyone is in the right place to get a good picture of your boat - LOL.

Here's another shot of Tim's and my boat at BOOTS 05 on Lake Texoma.

Reduced down to 40K looks like a watercolor Sad

It figgures I was on call last weekend. This weekend I am off and Rita comes to visit. Makes for hard sailing that way.

Travis:

Do you have any kind of screen enclosure? If not...how hard would it be to fit together some type of dodger tied into your bimini to put up an enclosed shelter around your cockpit?

I've been in places where you could not be outside due to the bugs....but at the same time, the cockpit would be a great place to spend the evening. Either sleeping or sitting.

I've even wondered about a second boom horse....in front of the mizzen mast...and using that to support an enclosure.

Howard, I don't have a screen enclosure for the cockpit.  It would be nice to have, and I need to come up with one somehow.  It would need to include the bridgedeck and over the companionway in order to be really usable.  Shouldn't be too hard if one was handy with a sewing machine.  Hey, maybe I'll learn Idea

My portlights are screened and provided very good ventilation inside the cabin on my last trip to Lake Texoma.  I had to shut the companionway boards and hatch cover one night because of the mosquitos.  I also plan to make screen companionway hatch boards.  These would be simple to make out of ply and plastic screening by using my current boards for patterns.
